Today you will have the opportunity to get to know the Isthmus that once was explored by Christopher Columbus and Vasco Nuñez de Balboa. Panama City is well known as the principal shipping point to and from South and Central America in colonial days.
Our first stop will be at Old Panama, where the remaining ruins are the vestiges of the city left by Pirate Henry Morgan, who sacked the town in 1671. Then we'll continue to visit the second colonial city of Panama, Casco Viejo, which was built in 1673. Here we will walk the French Plaza and surrounding area. The architecture here includes colonial styles of the French, Italian, American and Spanish.
You will also visit one of the greatest engineering marvels of all time: The Panama Canal. At the Canal we'll spend some time at the Miraflores Visitor Center, located on the east side of the Miraflores Locks, which allows the visitor to observe transiting vessels from a distance of only a few meters and learn firsthand about the various operations of the Panama Canal, the history of it's construction, its participation in the world markets, and the importance of its watershed.
Includes: Transportation, English ? Speaking tour guide, lunch, entrance fees to Miraflores Lock & Old Panama on full day tours. Half day tours do not include Old Panama fee nor lunch.
